Assignment 2 - Band/Artist Biography

Band Name: Comatose Flamingo
Music Style: Alternative
Members: Nick "Dirty Daddy" Mitchell (Guitar/Bass), Noah "Earthquake" Aranda (Drums), and Rachael "Loudmouth" Radabaugh (Vocals)
Discography: Comatose Flamingo (2000), Oblivion (2001), Lethargic People (2002), Unconscious Promise (2005), Darkness (2006), Blind Eyes (2007), Numbness (2008), Saving Presence (2009)

Bio: Comatose Flamingo was created in 1998 when members Nick “Dirty Daddy” Mitchell, Noah “Earthquake” Aranda, and Rachael “Loudmouth” Radabaugh entered a talent show at Spring Woods High School in Houston, Texas. The then-juniors were a huge hit and were entered in a competition for best band in the Spring Branch Independent School District. When they won the competition with overwhelming enthusiasm, they knew their music had the potential to take them far. They started playing at places like the House of Blues in Houston, selling out every performance. After graduating high school in 2000, Rachael’s uncle, Ricky Bobby, approached the new grads and asked them to consider making a record. The trio agreed to give it a shot and released their first album with Swisha House Records, which was self-titled, at the end of 2000. Their first hit-single, “Blinded”, was so successful that they began touring with a substantial amount of success in between college classes. By the time they released “Oblivion” in 2001, they were rising to fame fast. With only two years of both college and experience in the music industry under their belt, they left college and pursued a career in music full-time.

The group celebrated the 2002 release of “Lethargic People” at Rachael’s country home in San Marcos, Texas. Nick set off fireworks for the crowd, and some debris hit Noah, who was riding dirt bikes with Rachael’s brother Jacob. Noah lost control of his bike and crashed into a tree, seriously injuring and putting himself in a coma. The accident crushed the group, and Rachael and Nick drifted apart. Nick was so upset about being the one who caused Noah to get into the accident that he turned to drugs and had to enter rehab. Rachael, not knowing what else to do and figuring her career in music was over, went back to school and completed her Bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University. No attempt at new music was made, and the group became a fading memory to the public.

2005 rang in a new year and a fresh start for Comatose Flamingo. Noah, after two years in a coma, miraculously woke up and was able to return to the life he had. Nick was released from rehab, and the group started working on their first album since the accident. “Unconscious Promise” went multi-platinum in the first week, and was their first multi-platinum album. Their next three albums, “Darkness” (2006), “Blind Eyes” (2007), and “Numbness” (2008), went multi-platinum as well. In 2008, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, honored to be in the same company as musical geniuses Madonna and John Mellencamp. Their next album, “Saving Presence” is set to be released on June 1, 2009.
